A good first week of rides for Newt!
On Monday & Tuesday, Newt had his 2nd & 3rd rides in the round pen with no helper. He didn't have any tightness at the trot as he did with Ride #1. Both rides went well (so well that I pulled my phone out during his 3rd ride).
On Wednesday, we started in the round pen before moving into the arena for his first ride there. In the arena, we're working on One Rein Stops & Cruising. My big goal with this first week or so in the arena is to have them confident about traveling at all gaits on a loose rein. I do very little steering, beyond a brief pickup of the rein, as I never want to intentionally set these horses up to learn to pull on me this early in the game. Every time I pick up on the rein, I want him to think "get soft" & so far, he's showing that he's quite willing to do so. Thus far, he's been a smooth little ride & has taken these first rides in stride, even with the cooler weather rolling in.
Today, we had our first bit of snow for the season.
Next week, we'll continue to work on One Rein Stop & Cruising, while also introducing more steering with Follow the Fence.

Next week's update will be posted on Friday.
I do my best to get these updates posted in a timely manner, but it's not uncommon for me to be outside until after dark, depending on the weather, my schedule, & who gets worked when, so updates will sometimes be posted quite late in the evening. Don't be alarmed if you don't see your update right away. In rare cases, I may have to push them until the next morning, but I'll reach out & let you know if so.
